Messina and the Eolian islands

Founded by the Greeks, who called it “Zancle,” Messina is the gateway to Eastern Sicily where legends and myths are part of its history. After Messina has been destroyed in 1908 by a devastating earthquake, the city was rebuilt by saving its history and projecting itself into a modern architecture with wide streets and elegant buildings. Messina is also famous for its coffee granita,  Pignolata cake, fish and rotisserie and for its breathtaking overview to the Aeolian Islands.
