Beyond the magnificence of Palermo, the beauty of the cathedral of Monreale, the sumptuousness of the villas of Bagheria, a landscape of green hills opens up, surrounding an area, the so called Alto Belìce, which offers naturalistic excursions, trekking, and includes the Archaeological Park of Monte Jato. A naturalistic and charming area which has been renamed for its long trail- going through villages – “the Sicilian “Cammino di Santiago”.
A unique area famous for its cereal production, its viticulture and products such as vastedda del Belìce cheese, almonds, chickpeas, pomegranate, pasta made by ancient Sicilian durum wheats (perciasacchi, senatore cappelli, timilia).
This part of Western Sicily, stretches for 160 kilometers and includes three provinces and at least thirteen municipalities, almost reaching the hinterland of Sicily.
